Policy 403.03

Payment and Gifts to Employees and Relations with Outside Organizations

The district recognizes that employees of the district will develop relations and work with outside organizations. For purposes of this policy, “outside organizations” include groups that consist of parents, members of the community and other individuals who contribute to and support athletic, extracurricular activities and educational programs within the district including booster clubs, parent-teacher organizations (PTOs) and other support groups with similar purposes. Individual gifts and solicitation of contributions for gifts to district employees are discouraged. No district employee is to receive any personal gifts, compensation, commission, expense-paid trips, or anything of significant value from outside organizations or companies supplying equipment, services, support, or materials required in the operation of the district. District employees may receive reimbursement of documented school related expenditures by the District or school related parent groups for authorized travel.

Only by permission of the superintendent may exceptions be made. Employees may not accept anything more than a nominal gift from outside organizations, students or parents of students who may wish to show their appreciation.

Employees who work with outside organizations on matters relating to their employment with the district shall not serve as an officer or director of the outside organization, be responsible for handling funds or disbursements for the outside organization, or be an authorized signer on any bank account supporting the outside organization.

Employees working with outside organizations are subject to additional district policies including Policy 402.03 (Employee Conflict of Interest).
