The Regular Monthly Meeting of the Elkhorn Public Schools Board of Education was called to order at 6:30 PM. Members present: A. Parks, R. Vokt, J. Shatel, N. Rogic-Greufe, and M. Wortman. S. Ringenberg was absent. President A. Parks noted that the meeting was governed by the Open Meetings Act, a copy of which is posted in the Board Room of the District Office. Advance notice of the Board meeting was published in the Omaha World Herald on May 5, 2026.
The meeting began with public comment. During the “Good News Report,” N. Rogic-Greufe recognized that EVVMS students Ray Athipatla, Aaryan Dhanda, Kaitlyn Swanson, Akshaj Therattil, and Woody Wang recently represented their school in Washington, D.C. at the National Science Bowl, earning a top 32 finish in the competition that put them up against the top middle school team in each of the 50 United States. Congratulations to all on this National recognition! Additionally, the special education team at EGMS was recently recognized as the winner of the 2026 Nebraska ASD Network Friend of Autism Award! This award is presented each year to one exceptional group in Nebraska that shows remarkable dedication to individuals on the autism spectrum. Congratulations to all whose efforts are honored by this award! Next, the ESHS art department has been recognized for various awards recently, including: Individual works earned 12 Gold Keys, 10 Silver Keys, 9 Honorable Mentions, and 1 Gold Key for Portfolio at the 2025-26 Scholastic Art Show; The work of Luke Thomas was recognized as earning an American Visions Nominee Award; Artwork created by Destiny Bationo will be featured in this year’s Nebraska Governor’s Residence Art Show. Lastly, thanks to a spark during a 5th-grade writing assignment, current EVVMS 8th grader Vivaan Mahapatra can add “Published Author” to his resume! Congratulations on this accomplishment, Vivaan!
It was moved by M. Wortman and seconded by N. Rogic-Greufe to approve the Consent Agenda items including: approval of agenda, approval of minutes for Monday, April 13, 2026, and approval of May bills for payment as presented.

It was moved by R. Vokt and seconded by J. Shatel to approve the resignation of Jennifer Eidem, Janice Fitch, and Erin McKenzie effective at the end of the 2025-2026 contract year. Additionally, approve the cancellation of the contract for Zoey Devaney for the 2026-27 school year.

It was moved by N. Rogic-Greufe and seconded by R. Vokt to approve the appointment of Kennedy Beecham, Eric Boettcher, Catherine Dempsey, Hayden Gibson, Ella Hiddleston, Mary Liescheski, Alyssa Maddux, Robert Maddux, Ginny Margolis, Emma Martin, Olivia McElwee, Abigail O’Brien, Olivia Womack, Brenda Hodges, Hannah Huggins, Rhiannon Jeslis, Susan Stadig and Taylor Wymer for the 2026-27 school year.

It was moved by M. Wortman and seconded by J. Shatel to approve policy updates to Rules and Procedures to Implement Policy 1006.01 and Policy 606.03 – Media Centers.
CARRY-OVER VOTE: N. Rogic-Greufe – yes; A. Parks – yes; R. Vokt – yes; M. Wortman – yes; J. Shatel – yes
It was moved by M. Wortman and seconded by N. Rogic-Gruefe to approve a contract with Drewes Construction for $136,693.65 for basin conversion on district property around Woodbrook Elementary and Elkhorn North Ridge MS as required by the City of Omaha.

It was moved by N. Rogic-Gruefe and seconded by J. Shatel to approve the purchase of high school English adoption cycle materials for $113,361.65 from vendors W.W. Norton and Company, BFW Publishers, Textbook Warehouse, and Amazon.

It was moved by J. Shatel and seconded by M. Wortman to move to enter into a Closed Session of the Elkhorn Board of Education for the purposes of discussing personnel for the reason that it is clearly necessary for the protection of the public interest and for the prevention of needless injury to the reputation of an individual.

The Board entered Closed Session at 7:21 PM. The Board adjourned the meeting at 8:06 PM. The next Regular Monthly Meeting of the Board is scheduled for Monday, June 8, 2026, at 6:30 PM, in the Board Room at the District Office, 20650 Glenn Street, Elkhorn, NE 68022.
