Text Box:   Thomas Jefferson is best known for creating the Declaration of Independence. June 26, 1934 Congress approved the building of the Jefferson Memorial. April 13, 1943 (the 200th Anniversary of Jeffersons birth) President Franklin D. Roosevelt dedicated the Jefferson Memorial. The Jefferson Memorial has inscribed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal....."
