Text Box: The first official flag was chosen on June 14, 1777. It had 13 red and white stripes and 13 stars on a blue background. Today the flag has 50 white stars - one star for each of the 50 states.   Do you know why the flag is red, white, and blue? Red means to be brave White means to be innocent Blue means to be fair      Each flying American flag is a reminder of a proud, strong and free nation.
