Battle of the Books

Each year the fourth and fifth grade students have the opportunity to participate in the Battle of the Books reading program. Battle of the Books is designed to promote an enjoyment of reading, encourage students to read a variety of books, and increase student reading comprehension.

Computer Club

4th and 5th grade students have the opportunity to join computer club where they can explore technology.  Projects have included robotics, digital cameras, using scanners and creating storybooks.

Destination Imagination

Destination Imagination is a place where kids take what they know and what they are good at and learn to apply it to solve challenges, working together and cooperatively with a team and pushing the limits of imagination to best not their competition, but themselves

Safety Patrol

Students in the 5th grade can volunteer to be on the safety patrol squad.  The safety patrol helps Westridge students and families cross the streets safely.  They are on duty before school from 7:55a.m. until 8:30a.m. as well as after school from 3:06p.m. until 3:20p.m.

Reading Club

Students in grade K-2 will meet in the  cafeteria beginning at 8a.m. Students in grades 3-5 will report to the media center. Students have the opportunity to listen to books ready by a teacher, partner read, or read independently.  Once a student has participated in Reading club 20 times, he/she will receive a book up on our “reading Wall of Fame” located near the media center.

Walking Club

Students meet in the gym by grade level at 8a.m.  Students, along with teachers, walk daily on an established path.  Once a student has walked 20 days, he/she will receive a shoe up on our “Walking Wall of Fame” located near the cafeteria.

Student Council

The Westridge Student Council is composed of fourth and fifth grade student leaders.  Grade level classmates and teachers select the members.  The student council promotes a positive school atmosphere, helps with special events, and supports various community projects.  Some projects have included: monthly school wide spirit days, food drive for the local food bank, clothing drive for local shelters, and a school supply drive to help our military. Student council meets during lunchtime twice a month.  The Westridge student council members are role models for all students and demonstrate good citizenship throughout the school day.
