The Learning Community Law provides kindergarten through twelfth grade students residing in Douglas and Sarpy counties with the opportunity to enroll in any school, as long as a school has room for more students. The goal is to increase economic diversity at all schools throughout the two-county area. Participating school districts are Bellevue, Bennington, Douglas County West, Elkhorn, Gretna, Millard, Omaha, Papillion-LaVista, Ralston, South Sarpy and Westside.

The open enrollment application process will begin on Jan. 15 and conclude on March 15.

Applications for students wanting to get into Elkhorn schools must be delivered to the Central Office building, 20650 Glenn Street, Elkhorn, NE 68022 by 5:00 p.m. on March 15. The district will notify applicants of acceptance or rejection by April 5. Parents must notify the district by April 25 of their acceptance or the slot will be given to another applicant.

First priority will be given to siblings of students who will continue to attend the school. Second priority will be given to students who contribute to the economic diversity of the school and free transportation will be provided. Third priority will be given to all other students. Due to continued district growth, the Elkhorn Public School District anticipates a limited capacity for open enrollment. A random drawing will be conducted to fill available open enrollment seats.
